OSSEV 1 Project

This is an overview of our first OSSEV^® bespoke build and the project is called 'OSSEV 1' for now. The OSSEV 1 will be a car that mainstream car manufacturers are simply unable to build. It will be an EV that driver's can form a connection with and fall in love with.

The OSSEV 1 will meet the following key targets:

• Weighs less than 950 kg with the 32kWh battery option and less than 1100kg with the 64kWh battery option.
• More than 300hp and 350Nm torque.
• The 32kWh battery option should provide a range of approximately 150 miles and the larger battery option approximately 300 miles. Range estimates obviously vary with driving style and ambient temperature.
• Component costs to build the entry level OSSEV 1 will be less than £20,000.

• The OSSEV 1 will be designed to be a fun, modern and beautiful looking, high-performance 2-seater sports car with great driver involvement and predictable handling.
• It will be rear-wheel drive only.
• The low weight will be combined with a low centre of gravity and optimal weight distribution.
• Minimal driver intervention and active safety devices.
• Pure, direct connections between the driver and machine wherever possible.
• A comfortable, spacious and uncluttered interior.
• Physical and tactile controls and no touch screens.
• No expensive and complex parts to support things like assisted driving, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, etc.
• Well designed and documented to enable owners to easily repair, maintain and service their OSSEV 1 or to service centres to easily do this on their behalf.
• The design will allow most parts to be easily removed/replaced. This facilitates many customisation opportunities for those looking to create something even more unique.
• The design will enable a high quality fit and finish, with the option to use premium materials (carbon fibre, leather, titanium, etc.) if desired.
• The use of open-source hardware and software will enable anyone to build and collaborate on future improvements and upgrades.
• The OSSEV 1 will be designed to be reliable and have a very long lifetime.
• Standard parts will be adopted where this makes sense.
• Owners can chose to enable online connectivity and services. Owners will retain ownership and control of all personal data.
• There will be no enforced subscription services or apps, chaining owners to third parties.
• The OSSEV 1 will be designed to be reasonably practical for every day use and longer journeys. Our chosen benchmark is the Mazda MX-5.
• The OSSEV 1 will accommodate drivers up to 6' 2" tall.

• The use of open-source hardware and software will significantly reduce the material costs to build the OSSEV 1.
• Readily available parts and spares from a wide range of suppliers will reduce construction, maintenance, servicing and repair costs, resulting in cheaper insurance costs.
• For some of the major components (motor, inverter, battery, etc.), one or more preferred suppliers may be chosen.
• A documented design with version control will enable compatible upgrades and improvements over time.
• The focus will be on using high quality components manufactured in the UK as far as possible.
• The OSSEV 1 will be a low-volume 'kit car' that will required to pass a basic IVA test in the UK and will be designed with these regulations in mind.
• The primary application for the OSSEV 1 is fast road use. Where this is not the case, there will be many opportunities to increase performance and reduce weight.

• The size and weight of the OSSEV1 means that 15" rims make the most sense in terms of style, handling and ride comfort.
• In-wheel motors are being considered.
• Relatively minor aerodynamic features and a decent ground clearance, given that the top speed will be around 120mph.
• The OSSEV 1 will have ABS.
• The OSSEV 1 will not have power steering.
